Knitting Socks spell

My mother has given me permission to blog about our family spell for knitting socks. It is not really something they teach in school and it is ever so useful.

The basic spell is 'texetis.' You can use this on a specific pattern by setting the yarn and needles on the pattern. This is a bit tricky though. Don't do it near your yarn stash or another pattern because you could end up knitting something else entirely! I tried to make a bulky weight cabled purse one time and it picked up a lace weight shawl pattern. I have a pretty cool blanket now, though.

So if you just have a cool yarn, which I know so often happens, you can just think (hard) of the basic pattern. Really think about the details if you have something particular in mind. Or you can just say the spell and it will knit up into whatever the yarn wants to be.
  • Socks - texetis pedalos
  • Gloves - texetis chirothecam
  • Scarf - texetis amictorum
  • Sweater - texetis sudacula
You can get some really amazing stuff items this way, just letting the yarn design the item. I love buying handspun, -dyed yarn and letting the yarn pick any cables or lace or whatever else it wants to be. I am pretty sure that a lot of those designs in muggle knitting magazines are from clever witches who scratch out the pattern from a yarn that picked its own design!

My classes

Well. What a night I had. That crazy little canary that has been following me around seems to have stablized and is at a constant translucence. Last night she got me to follow her down to the Great Hall around midnight were the ghosts and house elves seemed to be having some sort of mellow party. All sitting around drinking tea and talking. It was quite a scene. I am glad they were all having such a good time, but I ran off before they could catch me snooping.

Other than that, I am enjoying all my classes. They are challenging and fun. I wish my Enchanted Kits class were a little more faced paced, but it is an extra curricular class and if it took up too much time, I would probably fall behind in my other classes.
  • Astronomy - I love learning all the stars. Plus I am a night owl, so having a class at midnight is just great!
  • Charms - Charms are fun and silly.
  • Defense Against the Dark Arts - This class is creepy, but at least the new teacher makes it a little more pleasant with something nice to look at...
  • Herbology -What a strange class. I never thought gardening could be so interesting.
  • History of Magic - I am surpised that I am enjoying this class. My parents never too much interest in the history of magic, so they never really told me much about it. Lots of interesting things went on. Too bad the teacher can making the most gorey goblin battle dull. I have enchanted a paper to visually display pictures of what he is talking about so it is not so bad now.
  • Potions - We haven't done anything too interesting yet. I don't really care what all the names for a plant are, though, I guess it is important so that I don't mix the wrong things. The little canary seems most interested in this class, hoping around on my desk all the time.
  • Transfiguration - I am not sure I understand the purpose of this class. How often is that when I need a cup, the only thing handy is a rat...

What a clutz!

I couldn't post last night because I was so busy cleaning up after myself. I dropped my whole potions kit next to my bed. I can't believe some of the stuff that came out of that mess. I now have a very strange pet canary. I don't think anyone else can see her. She seems to be pretty nice though. And she seems to be fading with time.

I had to use an adaptation of the anti-intruder jinx on the door so I could clean up my mess before anyone saw what I did. I fixed the burnt spots on the floor and got all of the ingredients back in their respective bottles and bags. What a mess though. I don't think that room will ever smell the same. Mind you, now it smells like burnt cookies, so it could be worse.

And a note to my lovely prefect, I am checking in with the hsks4 blog basically every day. Most often more than that. It is just too exciting.

My wand

Wood type: holly
Length: 11½ inches
Core: Dragon Heartstring

get your own wand!

Holly: Holly is the strongest of the protective woods. It is used to guard against evil. In fact, Holly means "holy". Holly wands excel at combat, defense, and protection spells. It is also useful in glamour's and warding. This wand tends to pick an owner who's brave and pure of heart, not to mention has a high intelligence.
Holly's personality is Determined
Element: Fire

Dragon Heartstring: Wands with Dragon Heartstring cores are excellent for hexes, or for dueling, not to mention fire magic. They tend to choose a witch or wizard who is strong not only physically, but also emotionally, and who usually has very strong opinions on things, though they often tend to be strong willed and thickheaded as well.

Looks like I am going for fire, since both wood and core are meant for fire.

Earlier I had gone to a lesser wandmaker and he told me that I needed a Holly wand with a unicorn hair core. Here is the difference:
Unicorn hair: Unicorn Hair is best for those with pure intentions, and is almost never wielded by someone intending to use their wand for evil purposes. Especially good for love, defense and healing magic.

I'm here!

Phew! I am all settled into my room with the other Ravenclaw first years. I have some interesting tidbits about myself I thought I would share here.
My patronus - a badger. Which is really strange since I got sorted into Ravenclaw.

Family - My mother is Celestina De Mimsy Porpington and my father is Sir Nicholas Ackerley.
My brother, is the infamous
Xantian The Insane. He really isn't as awful as everyone says he is. The chicken incident was truly a misinterpreted accident. It's head was like that to begin with.

Anyways. I better finish unpacking. I am looking forward to my class with
Miss Mandy Finch-Fletchley about Enchanted Kit Planning so I can do better in the Hogwarts Sock Kit Swap 4.
